Protect your heart, protect your life!

According to World Heath Organization (WHO), Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally. In 2019 CVDs represented 32% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% were due to heart attack and stroke. Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing behavioural risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and excessive use of alcohol

According to a recent research study conducted by Pulse Market Research on behalf of the Cyprus Society of Cardiology amongst the general Cypriot population, it seems that Cypriots are prone to such risk factors related to adverse lifestyle behaviors. More specifically, 30% of the total adult participants were smokers, 51% did not follow a healthy diet and 65% did not exercise regularly. Similar lifestyle habits were observed amongst participants diagnosed with heart problems.

Since such unhealthy behaviours, comprising high risk factors are potentially reversible, we could all try to change them. By protecting our hearts we are protecting our lives!
