GDPR was put into act on May 2018.

General Data Protection Regulation can be considered as the world's strongest set of data protection rules, which enhance how people can access information about them and places limits on what organizations can do with personal data.

The EUs says GDPR was designed to "harmonize" data privacy laws across all of its members countries as well as providing greater protection and rights to individuals. GDPR was also created to alter how businesses and other organizations can handle the information of those that interact with them. There is the potential for large fines and reputational damage for those found in breach of the rules.

According to recent research conducted by Pulse Market Research and My Opinion online panel, it was found out that only 23% of Cypriots internet users between 18-34 years old see the leakage of personal information on the internet as a risk.
